Japanese beer nostalgia from my trip to Tokyo

One way to remember my best free experience in Tokyo, at the Kirin Brewery in 2017

On the 9th of March, 2017, I had the great fortune to visit the Kirin Brewery. Oh my, it was heaven! Probably the best free thing I did in Tokyo. Yup, you read that right, the tour was FREE!

The map of heaven at the gate to heaven, then me in heaven...and I'm still alive! Do I make a good Kirin Poster Girl?

To pay homage to this wonderful event in my history, I decided to order some Kirin beers to celebrate my own little Kirin Beer Day and relive that wonderful afternoon.

The place I ordered them from were one short, so they threw in an Asahi to make up the balance. I'm stoked it is a 2020 Olympics bottle too, basically a collectors item!

One Tokyo 2020 Olympics bottle of Asahi beer, amongst it's Kirin beer friends, awwww.

At tour's end, you're allowed 3 free tasters per person, yes these pints were their "tasting" size...the catch, you had 30mins to drink them! We certainly walked on air all the way back to our hotel...

I was stoked to find the bottles I got delivered were the genuine imported article, so I've definitely been getting the nostalgic vibes I was looking for. I'm keen to save the Asahi and buy some local ones and test the taste difference, I'm super curious!

  • You make a great poster girl for them. Honestly I don't know as much about Japanese beer so I do not have a favorite.

    • Why thank you! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰ I enjoy them whenever I can. There are many different kinds. They have wonderful whisky too. I'd highly recommend you try if you get the chance. Sapporo is another good brand. Very tasty!

    • I have had Sapporo before it is ok. I don't care for whisky.

  • That's a pretty cool experience to celebrate!

    • Thanks! My plan was to do it every year but actually this is the first time I've been able to. I'm definitely going to try and keep up the tradition. πŸ™‚

  • Japanese 🍺 are my favorites. The ales are not so bitter. My favorites are kyoto beer white yuzu and hitachino red ale. By the way, I tried the kirin beer with matcha, it was really good.

  • 1. Sapporo

    2. Now that I’ve answered your question, I had plans to do similar tours in Tokyo when I planned my trip for April of 2020. I had the best-worst timing ever. How many other people planned for 2-1/2 years for a trip to pick the exact time when the world would shut down?! Naturally, I’ve realized I’m better at predicting storms than sunny days.

    • That is beyond gutting. I'm glad I hadn't planned anything. Hopefully the future holds better things πŸ™‚ Sapporo is amazing, so good with Ramen 😍

  • The Asahi Tower has great views of Tokyo.

    • Where is Asahi tower? I'm not sure that is the one we visited. We did go up a tower and there was a restaurant and 360Β° views of Tokyo from the top, it was really clear the day we went, we could see Mt Fuji, it was amazing
