Join the Leicester restaurant raising money for the NHS with an online cookalong

The first cookalong raised £1036 for our frontline staff. Help smash the record this week!

The Pear Tree Inn, in Leicestershire, like other pubs and restaurants in the country, has closed its doors to patrons for the lockdown. They are offering a takeaway service, but times are very different for them.

To entertain their much-loved punters and to show appreciation for our heroic NHS staff, they hosted an online cookalong to help raise money.

The money came from ingredients that the restaurant boxed into packs for the cookalong. Those looking to participate could purchase the boxes the day tuning into the live event on the restaurant's Facebook page – where the restaurant's owners, Marco, Riccardo, and Gianni Albiniano, talked viewers through the process of rustling up a delicious main and a tiramisu dessert.

In total, over £1000 was raised – every penny of which went straight to the NHS, who were delighted with the generous donation.

Keen to keep spirits up in the community and raise some more money for NHS staff, the brothers are hosting another live cookalong this Thursday, 16 April, which you can join on their Facebook page from 5pm UK time.

They will be helping you serve up a delicious main of pesto gnocchi with bruschetta, followed by a traditional lemon posset with English berries.

If you're nearby, you should head to the pub and pick up a cookalong pack – but if you're not, you can grab the ingredients and join in elsewhere, or even just tune in to watch the fun.

You can support The Pear Tree's efforts from anywhere by donating directly to their chosen charity here – and, if you let them know on their Facebook stream, they will be hugely grateful!
