Lil Nas X appointed 'chief impact officer' at Taco Bell
The hitmaker has returned to the company he worked for before reaching musical superstardom!
It's not uncommon for celebrities to get roles, whether honourary or official, within big companies. Trent Reznor has been officially involved with Beats (and later Apple) since 2013, playing a major role in the launch of Apple Music. Serena Williams designed her own clothing line at HSN. Kate Hudson is the brains behind JustFab's Fabletics clothing label. There are plenty more examples out there and the latest of those is linked to the incredibly popular pop/rock/hip-hop/country crossover star Lil Nas X. The Gen Z cultural icon has been appointed as Taco Bell's 'Chief Impact Officer', an honourary role that will see him collaborate with the restaurant chain on various different projects.
It's actually somewhat of a return to Lil Nas X's roots to be working for Taco Bell. Prior to finding success with his music via the omnipresent "Old Town Road" (which, funnily enough, features a sample of a piece of music co-written by the aforementioned Trent Reznor!), he worked at a branch of the nigh-on ubiquitous restaurant chain in his home town in Georgia. This is something he refers to in the music video for "Sun Goes Down" (a song he wrote as a reflection on his youth), which was partly filmed at a branch of Taco Bell. Commenting on a Tweet from Billboard about the announcement of his new role at the restaurant chain, he said that his life "has come full circle".
"Lil Nas X knows the job, the experience, and the culture Taco Bell creates for its fans - including its people," Taco Bell's CEO Mark King said in a press release. "This unique partnership will deliver on more than just marketing, allowing us to tap into the genius of Lil Nas X to inspire our team members and align with our commitment to unlocking opportunities for young people."
So, what exactly will Lil Nas X be doing in his new role at Taco Bell? Well, we can expect to see him as an official face for several of the brand's campaigns. He makes an appearance in its new breakfast campaign, where breakfast will return to 90% of Taco Bell's restaurants. He will also be supporting the company's charitable ventures such as the Taco Bell Foundation and the Live Mas scholarship program. He'll also be involved with exclusive experiences and menu innovations and Taco Bell will be assisting in the promotion of his new album Montero.
