Lobster and crab-flavoured, award-winning butter for £95: would you try it?
This is no ordinary butter, no siree, it’s the Ridiculous No55 Lobster and Crab Butter (yup, that’s what it’s called), it costs £95 and it’s recently been included among the finest foods in the world. And it comes with its own glass case.
It’s produced by Sublime Butter, a Richmond-based, family-run business that specialises in, well, butter - and it’s flavoured with lobster, Devon crab, caviar, lemon and fennel.
“It’s ridiculous by name and by nature,“ said Chris Mair, the company’s founder. “We didn’t spare any expense on the ingredients.”
The GFF (Guild of Fine Foods) received 14,113 entries from 108 countries this year, and each item is is analysed - and then ranked and voted - by a pool of 350 experts, including chefs, retailers, food critics and journos, who blind-taste the product.
One of the judges said this ”is an exciting, innovative product. The butter has been whipped perfectly to give a wonderful mouth feel.”
Another judge added: “The taste is delicious, the sweetness is offset by a touch of lemon. It is a harmony of flavours of the seafood with good quality butter.”
