McDonald's Monopoly is cancelled
Just when you thought 2020 couldn't get any worse...but all is not lost
McDonalds Monopoly has become an absolute mainstay of mealtime shenanigans. It's a fact that McDonald's visits go through the roof when they are running it, and not just from me (although mostly from me) but from everyone.
As if you needed more of a reason to take to the drive thru at those fabled golden arches for your favourite McTreat, they will actually allow you to win more of their food! Yes, you can also win some super cool prizes like cars and holidays but i'm all in for a McFlurry and an Apple Pie!
So to say we are devastated at this really wouldn't cover it but, thinking about their reasoning, it's easy to see why.
That flocking to the drive thru that we do is just not practical this year. If the drive thru is busy, you park the car and head inside and how do you socially distance with 100 other hungry people? You don't. It would also put additional pressure on a drastically reduced work force and they have said it's just not worth it.
In a statement, they say "We know many of you enjoy this promotion, which has run since 2005 in the UK. To enable safe working and social distancing inside our restaurants and to minimise the pressure on our employees, we have decided to cancel this year's Monopoly VIP campaign.
"It creates a great deal of excitement inside our restaurants and relies heavily upon menu items we cannot safely reintroduce yet."
On the bright side...
They have updated their menu to bring you more of your favourites and some semblance of normality! Since reopening after lockdown, their menu has been limited to things they felt they could safely deliver under the restrictions.
As of July 8th, they will be expanding this to include some items they know we are all missing. It's not the full menu but, my goodness, are we grateful!
Milkshakes, Mayo Chicken, Bacon Mayo Chicken, Hot Chocolate, Bacon Double Cheeseburger, Happy Meal Organic Milk.
It's not the news we wanted but, little by little, beloved Maccas is being restored, and we are all here for it!

Fully support this. I’m considering not counting this years birthday toward my age and wiping this year from my cumulative existence when it’s over
The first time I won a small fries... you don't want to know how immature I was. Even I've expunged it from my mind.
It's very exciting and I would encourage the immaturity!
