Merriam-Webster has added a bunch of foodie words to the dictionary
Did your favorite foodie word make it in this year?
Every year the English language develops, making it forever evolving. To keep up with that, each year Merriam-Webster adds new words to the dictionary.
There are strict rules regarding which words make it to the dictionary. For starters, it always has to be fewer than 1,000 words. This year, 455 words and phrases made the cut and luckily for us, a handful of them are foodie words.
What foodie words made the cut?
A spokesperson for Merriam-Webster highlighted the following foodie words and phrases which are either brand new, or related to existing words and phrases.
Air Fryer: An airtight, usually small electrical appliance for quick cooking of foods by means of convection currents circulated rapidly by a fan
Chicharron: A small piece of pork belly or pig skin that is fried and eaten usually as a snack
Curbside Pickup/Curbside Delivery: Service in which purchased items are brought to customers who wait in their automobiles in a designated area near the establishment
Dine-In: Of, relating to, or selling food or beverages consumed on the premises
Fluffernutter: A sandwich made with peanut butter and marshmallow creme between two slices of white sandwich bread
Goetta: Meat (such as pork) mixed with oats, onions, and spices and fried in the form of a patty
Ghost Kitchen: A commercial cooking facility used for the preparation of food consumed off the premises
Horchata: A cold sweetened beverage made from ground rice or almonds and usually flavorings such as cinnamon and vanilla
Wiener Roast: A gathering at which wieners are cooked over a fire or grill and eaten
Peter Sokolowski, Merriam-Webster's editor at large, had this to say, "We are all encountering changes in work, public policy, and healthcare, as well as how we communicate online. It's not surprising that these changes are reflected in the dictionary."
Merriam-Webster has also added Copypasta in this year as well. While it has literally nothing to do with food, there will finally be a definition for the internet slang... and it has the word 'pasta' in it. So there.

What do you think FoodTribers, did Merriam-Webster add the right food related words and phrases, or are there some they missed out on?

My favorite food word is "lets-eat", 😂👍
Lol same though
I've been using the term "Fluffernutter" for as long as I can remember, and I'm over 60. The Merriam Webster moves slowly, I guess. 😂
Right! I was shocked that was a new addition. I’ve been using it since childhood
I've never heard the term at all and I'm 71! At a guess, I would say Merriam-Webster has added all new American words. (Sorry...)🐸😁😎
Good!
That's pretty cool
I thought so too
Fluffernutter I think has just become my new fav word 😂
Lol it’s a good one for sure
