Milanese Sunday lunch

Typical dishes of the Milano city

1y ago

Milan may not be as well-known for its cuisine as some other parts of Italy, but the city and the greater Lombardy region have some classic dishes that you’ll fall in love with.

Today, my mother cooked three typical dishes of Milano, and I wont to show you!

Risotto alla Milanese

Risotto alla Milanese

Risotto alla Milanese

Perhaps the most classic Milanese dish. The result is a creamy risotto that is positively golden in colour and bearing that characteristic saffron flavour.

Cotoletta alla Milanese

The cutlet is a slice of veal sirloin on the bone, breaded and fried in butter. It is also called Orecchia d'Elefante (Elephant's Ear), for the characteristic shape it takes.

Verza stufata

Savoy cabbage stewed with carrots, celery and onion. This is the basis for another dish, the "cassoeula" (which contains parts of the pig), but in this case, it is only a vegetable side dish.

Baked potatoes are not Milanese, but today my mother exaggerated!

Have a nice Sunday!

  • Isn’t Milan also famous for those tiny little pizzas. I had them as a street food dish, when I last visited, can’t remember what they are called.

    • Maybe you're talking about the pizzas by the slice? Milano it is full of shops that sell them because we Milanese are always in a hurry and those are eaten quickly
