Monstrous Carbonara makes the Italians despair

A Facebook user shared a picture of his carbonara to a group, and people are saying it looks so bad he's 'obviously given up on life'.

After the pizza with kiwi, another abomination has landed on social media.

Steven S shared a photo of his "carbonara" in the Facebook group 'Rate my plate' and many people did not hold back.

For the absent-minded, we recapitulate the carbonara: eggs, pecorino cheese, bacon and pepper. Nothing else.

I look the photo, I see things and do not understand what they are β€” WΓΌrstel, plastic 'cheese' square, and... broken spaghetti from a tin, which would be an abomination even without the sauce.

One person said: "That is literally the least effort you could go to make yourself a meal. You have obviously given up on life."

Or: "Now that my friend is one of the worst things I have seen on this page. I wonder what you had to drink with it – a nice glass of vinegar? That's a bit like wine isn't it?"

Another added: "In what world is that carbonara??? Italians everywhere are weeping over this monstrosity."

That we Italians are pedantic about food is well known, but from abroad they are committed to giving us reasons to be so!

So why don't we try this way: cook what you want, but don't call it Italian food, unless it's D.O.C.

Can it work? ;-)

  • I'm not even an Italian food partisan, but that looks vulgar.

  • Hi Valentina, I can assure you that isn't cheddar cheese. It's a processed cheese slice which I think the Americans invented. Like the stuff McDonald's use. Cheddar on the other hand is gorgeous πŸ€“

  • C'mon everyone, relax 😁 The only sin this guy is guilty of is to call this thing "carbonara". Well, it isn't. Apart from that, if he really insists on eating it, so be it. Personally I'd go for the ingredients but separately and without that much sauce πŸ˜‰

    • πŸ˜‚ ?? What? 😁 Sausages are ok with some mustard, pasta is obviously good (doesn't look like broken spaghetti to me, BTW). Processed cheese is useful if you need to get someone to stop talking πŸ˜‚. Even that sauce might be acceptable when not...
