My experience eating at Saltbae's Nusr-Et restaurant in New York City
Well, it was... interesting
I'll preface this by saying that while I love a nice night out at a fancy restaurant, I am not necessarily the image of someone who usually dines at those sorts of places.
However, Nusr-Et is at an odd junction between classy and trashy. Half of the clientele were wearing ripped jeans and dirty sneakers, and the other half were in shiny suits and sunglasses.
But how did we come to eat at Nusr-Et? The answer is that it was one of my hairbrained, spur of the moment ideas and, most importantly, my tummy was growling and it was across the street from where we were. I'll explain further.
Last year, we were in NYC in February on a weekend getaway and wanted to try some new places to eat. I had always gotten a kick out of Saltbae on Instagram (the guy who dribbles salt down his arm and onto your food for those who haven't heard of him. Actually saying it like this, his signature salt sprinkling technique is actually really disgusting...) Moving on.
When we walked in and during our dining experience, the hostess and wait staff were all very nice. Since I am a cheapskate, we went to lunch instead of dinner because the prices are cheaper at lunch and, let me tell you, at a place like Nusr-Et they are wayyyyyyyyy cheaper at lunch. This is the home of the 18k gold steak on their dinner menu, remember.
One of the interesting things about eating here is how classy and tacky it is at the same time. I mean look at that sweater above that they have for sale. It is at most a $5 Amazon ugly Christmas sweater find, right? Not at Nusr-Et, oh no. If memory serves, I think it was over $300. For that.
The food at Nusr-Et
I am guessing you're wondering what we ordered. I got a hamburger and my wife got a salad and a glass of wine. It came to $93. Honestly not that bad for NYC prices, but still... $93. For a burger and a salad. My tap water was free as always so that was good. The burger was actually quite delicious, minus the American cheese. It seems at that price point a nice cheddar could have been added but oh well, the rest was delicious. My wife enjoyed her salad as well and her wine, well, the glass was drier than the wine when we left, so I assume it was tasty.
It was an experience, but not sure it's one I'll be repeating again.

weird timing
the truth of the matter is everything these days relies on marketing. Salt Bae is a good chef, bad chef, mediocre chef? No idea. Never tried his food. But he absolutely knows how to make his product sell. And on top of that, we shouldn't forget...
Read moreI wasn’t saying anything bad about him, just being objective with my own dining experience at his restaurant in NYC. His staff was very gracious, the food while not amazing was extremely good and well presented, and the overall experience...

I can guarantee not, Doug lol
I would rather spend my money in a small mom and pops restaurant.
