My Last Dance With the Best Cheeseburger I’ve Ever Had at a Restaurant!
Holy @#$%! It's just so damn good!
Alright. I've written about this burger before. I've got nothing new to say about it. My opinion of this burger hasn't changed. Its awesomeness hasn't changed. It's still the most ridiculously good burger I've ever had at a restaurant. You can read about my earlier thoughts on it here:
This burger used to be all but impossible to get your hands on – let me tell you the story. And dare I say it, it's the best burger I've eve
January 4th was my birthday. And it was my last birthday in the Atlanta, GA area before I move away to South Florida in February. It has become a little bit of a tradition of sorts that I seek out a most ridiculously good cheeseburger with my beautiful wife, Stacey, to celebrate my birthday. And for my last birthday here around Atlanta, I chose to have a Holeman & Finch Burger, one last time.
The interesting thing is, Holeman & Finch has been in the process of relocating, and they're just not open yet. They do have a couple other places to score this most awesome cheeseburger, but only one of them was conveniently located near my home, so that we didn't have to drive into the city of Atlanta. And that place was the high end steakhouse operated by the same restaurant group that started H&F: C. Ellet's Steak House At the Battery, Atlanta.
The Battery, Atlanta. Home of the Atlanta Braves!
It felt a little sacrilegious heading to a really nice steak house to order "just a cheeseburger." But, I was singularly focused on having this awesome burger one last time. Just looking over the menu, I was almost distracted by some of the more elevated choices. The selection of steaks was off the chain! The Kagoshima A5 grade Wagyu was a VERY tempting selection, as was the filet! But, instead of ordering a $100.00+ steak, I was there to eat a $14 cheeseburger. It felt kind of wrong. But that burger made it very all right!
James Beard award-winning Chef Linton Hopkins has redefined the classic American steakhouse. His modern interpretation of classic steakhouse dining, the C. Ellet’s menu focuses on an extensive beef program, oysters and seafood, plus vegetable dishes showcasing the area’s freshest seasonal ingredient
As a birthday treat, I did start with an appetizer, and ordered their Lobster Bisque. Ohhhhhh my! This was the best Lobster Bisque I've ever had for one simple, awesome reason; the generous chunks of lobster in the bisque! The Lobster Bisque had a great flavor, but the chunks of lobster meat really elevated it to the next level. My wife giggled at me because I was enjoying it so much and she could tell by the look on my face. Oh, and the Grey Goose and tonic, with blue cheese stuffed olives that I was sipping on were a joy too! :D
Best Lobster Bisque EVER!
My libation of choice for the evening; Grey Goose and tonic with blue cheese stuffed olives!
Stacey and I both ordered the H&F Burger for dinner, of course. To that we added one side of Parmesan Truffle Fries and one side of Mac & Cheese to share between us (I kind of regret not adding the shaved black truffle to this!).
Before I dig into how awesome the burger was, I will tell you about the sides. First off, you can never go wrong with French Fries. I don't care how fancy and upscale the restaurant is, fries are never off limits. And let's face it, if you're going to order a burger off any menu, fries just go with a burger! We also ordered the Mac and Cheese. The Macaroni and Cheese has an option add on of shaved black truffle, but we didn't add this. Without the black truffle, this was probably the best Mac and Cheese, I've ever had. The big, fat noodles were swimming in a rich cheese sauce, and the baked cheese on top rounded out the flavors with the perfect bite.
Parmesan & Truffle Fries!
The best mac & Cheese I've ever had!
But the Holeman & Finch cheeseburger. Oh holy @#$%!!!!! The cheeseburger NEVER fails to make me have the biggest smile. Upon the first bite, the flavors rushed in; the extreme and flavorful beefiness of the twin burger patties hits ya. And they were soooooooooo juicy and good! And then the incredibly molten lava American cheese mixes in on the flavor ride. Ohhhhhh soooooo perfect with the right creamy, melty, gooey texture! It still cracks me up that EVERYTHING on that burger is made in house, but they recognized the best cheese for the perfect meltiness was an off-the-shelf product. Ohhhhhhh damn, I love this cheeseburger!
Let's take a little trip around the H&F Burger!
YES!!!!! Ohhhhhh lawd! It's beautiful!
House made ketchup and mustard too!
Oh holy $#@%!!!!!! It's absolutely beautiful!
Yes, they make their own ketchup and mustard, I'm not kidding!
The pickles are also made in house!
To round out a really nice evening with my beautiful night, we went home and had birthday ice cream. Stacey put together a really nice Ice Cream Sunday together for me, and I think it tasted extra good because she was the one that made it for me. :D
This just makes me smile!
I'm excited to be moving to paradise in South Florida! I'm excited that I will be really close to a lot of beautiful beaches. I'm excited that my new back yard has a beautiful pool with a bunch of fruit trees and beautiful sunsets. But, I am sad I'm going to miss my friends and my "work family" here in Georgia. I'm sad I will be moving away from my neighbors and a house that I love. And now, as of last night, I am sad that my birthday Holeman & Finch burger at C. Ellet's was probably, most very likely, the last time I will ever have this most awesome of cheeseburgers. :(
