Chris’s French onion soup
Should serve about 10 with these instructions.
Ingredients
At least 8-10 large white onions
2 cloves of garlic
4-5 vegetable stock cubes (for non vegetarians, you can use 2 veg and 2 chicken stock cubes)
French baguette
Cheese (Cheddar, Emmental etc., although Gruyere is best)
Salt and pepper to taste
Dried parsley
Olive oil
General purpose flour
Method
Put a drizzle of olive oil into a large deep cooking pot and gently heat
Halve each onion and slice into 5mm wide strips
Crush the garlic
Add the onions and garlic to the pot
Sauté, but don’t brown the onions and garlic
Add flour (about 2 dessert spoons) and stir so that the onions are no longer shiny (I have no idea why I do this but it seems to make a difference)
Add a large kettle of hot water and more if required
Gently simmer and add 4 stock cubes
Simmer for about 15 minutes stirring occasionally
Taste and add another stock cube if required
Add salt and pepper to taste
Simmer for another 15 minutes
Add half a handful of parsley
Slice the baguette and add some cheese to each slice
Grill to melt the cheese
Serve the soup in bowls and add a slice or 2 of cheesy bread to each one

Sounds good to me, will give it a try!
French onion soup is the greatest soup in the world!
That looks and sounds delicious. But I can imagine the aftermath is...well...a bit trumpy.
I’m afraid that is an unavoidable by-product.
I shouldn't be looking at this while I'm hungry....
Sounds good
