Several years ago, I got to knock a bucket list trip off the list when I traveled to Sydney, Australia for a week. In researching the foods I wanted to try in Australia, I learned about the Australian Meat Pie, and I nailed down a place that I wanted to eat at; Harry's Cafe de Wheels. I also found out there was a local place near me making meat pies so I could try one before I left on my trip!

The Australian Bakery Cafe was opened by Aussie transplants, and they make meat pies not just for local customers, but for Australians living in the United States. They will freeze and ship their awesome pies out to 49 states, so Australians can get a little taste of home. I'm just glad they are nearby where I live so I can get an awesome pie when I get the craving!

I ordered a steak, onion, and cheese pie for lunch this past weekend, and it made me so happy to be sitting outside, on a beautiful Saturday, to enjoy a good meal. The pie filling is very rich with beefiness. My only regret; not ordering it with mushy peas! But, the fries were great and had a nice seasoning on top. Damn it! I'm hungry again for another pie just thinking of the great food the Australian Bakery Cafe turns out. Ach, I know. First time I've ever seen the ghastly wad on a meal in Australia. The rest of the post is lovely though, and next time you're in Aus, let me know and we'll go to a bakery in Braidwood or something, where it'll just be a damn glorious pie...

Those look & sound great.
Commercially made pies are ok, but there are a lot of tiny bakeries, particularly in wine regions, like Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Yarra Yarra Valley, Margaret River, around Tasmania and the like. They are unbelievable. Everyone, come to Australia and check it out for yourself or as great music producer and critic, Ian "Molly" Meldrum, says, "Common, do yourself a favour"!
We had an Australian Bakery in Scottsdale sadly it didn't take off but the food was good and these dishes could be inspiring...
