Panera is jumping on the plant-powered bandwagon this month after announcing it will be putting more veg friendly options on the menu.

In fact, the chain of bakery/cafe style spots plans to have at least half of the menu be plant-based by 2021.

Around a quarter of the menu is plant-based at the minute.

CEO Niren Chaudhary told Business Insider: “With just one customization, 60 percent of our menu is plant-based.”

But instead of having plant-based faux meat substitutes, like a lot of other places, Panera will offer more whole foods — such as edamame and quinoa.

And when it comes to their carnivorous offering, CNBC reports that Panera are planning to sell higher quality lean-cut meats.

“I think that [climate change is] actually going to become a bigger motivation for consumers over time," Sara Burnett, Panera's vice president of wellness and food policy, told Business Insider.
