Since the release of Coca Cola back in 1886, it has been a massive success. With a net worth of over $171 million, they are definitely a huge business in the drinks industry. But what about the American company's biggest rival - Pepsi? A lot of people, and I mean it, a lot; say that Pepsi and Coca Cola (or Coke, as I will refer to it for the rest of this article) taste the same. As a Soft Drinks expert* I can tell you that there are some massive differences.
*I am not a Soft Drinks expert.
Remember! All opinions listed are my own. We are all entitled to our opinions!
Coke is a very difficult drink to describe the taste of, and the original red-labelled bottled drink is something that I have not drunk for a very long time (due to my Pepsi Max addiction). The classic Coca Cola drink is fizzy, leaving behind a very sweet aftertaste that seems to last much longer than Pepsi's after taste does. Pepsi, on the other hand, also has a sweet flavour, but doesn't seem as sweet as Coca Cola. In the top category, I think Coca Cola is the winner in terms of flavour.
Moving on to the Diet range of drinks. Diet Coke has a much different taste to the originals, unlike what a lot of people seem to think. The drink isn't quite as sweet due to the lack of sugar, and instead relies on the sweeteners to give the classic taste. The diet version of Coke and Pepsi seem slightly thicker than that of it's fatty brothers, but also seem to be slightly darker in colour. In this category, I would rate Pepsi the clear winner, as Diet Coke doesn't seem to have a very nice aftertaste.
Up next - the weird drinks that people seem to like the most... That's right, we are talking about Pepsi Max and Coke Zero! And with the most bias that can ever be present in a food related article, this has to be the worst; because Pepsi Max is the clear winner here. Pepsi Max is the perfect meal-time companion for me as it tackles being sweet, as well as being a simple drink that won't put you off of anything you have with it. As with the other categories, the Coke Zero variation seems to be much sweeter than that of the Pepsi, meaning it is difficult to drink large quantities of the drink. As a result, Pepsi takes the victory for me at 2 to 1 for the blue-labelled American drink.
