- Nothing is quite as beautiful as a cold Peroni. Apart from maybe a Birra Moretti...

Peroni 0% - What's it like?

Alcohol free beers are often hit or miss and with Peroni sponsoring Aston Martin in F1, are they a hit or a miss?

Beer and Formula One are surprisingly good bedfellows. Arrows had Warsteiner, Benneton Bitburger, Alfa Romeo have Singha, Force India had Kingfisher, Jaguar, when they were a thing had Becks on board as a sponsor for a bit, Jordan had Pilsner-Urquell, Larousse ran with Kronenburg, and to top it all off, Formula One has a big tie with Heineken. So Peroni aren't really bucking the trend here. But as is becoming common, if you're a booze in motorsport chances are you are pushing your alcohol free products.

And that's what we've got here with Peroni on the new Aston Martins and their Libera beers. I enjoy Peroni a lot and have high expectations for it as a beer. Few of their products aren't spot on. The pale lager, Nastro Azzuro is well set amongst consumers as a quality product, often regarded as a premium choice over other lagers. Their double malt, Gran Riserva is an exceptional brew. The only chink in their armour is the Ambra, a lager with an orange twist. Nice as an aperitif, but not as pliant as their more common beers. You had to pair it well. All good stuff, but it does back them into a corner when it comes to promoting a new product, it has a high bar to cross. But does it cross that bar?

Have you tried the Peroni Libera? What did you think?

  • I'd be down for trying one for sure - but nonalcoholic beer is like decaffeinated coffee. It's without its soul, or something.

    • This still works because it’s refreshing and tastes nice. Coffee without its punch serves limited purpose.

    • But it's not alcoholic to say, part of the drinking experience is the relxation. That's why one cracks open a cold one at the end of a work day.
