Pizza bowls are now a totally pointless thing
Sure, there’s a craze for bowls right now, but this might be taking things a little too far…
Marco’s Pizza has done the impossible (and the unnecessary) by launching “a new take on pizza”: pizza bowls.
It's pizza — but in a bowl. Without the crust. Or base.
Call us traditional, but we think "new take on pizza" means like an alfredo sauce or whatever, not transforming it beyond all recognition.
The idea is to cater to “consumers’ ever-changing dietary preferences”. So you can still enjoy the taste of pizza, without… like, the main thing that makes it pizza.
Debuting today, March 9, as a permanent feature on the chain restaurant’s menu, Marco’s Speciality Pizza Bowls help you stick to a higher-protein, lower-carb diet.
The bowls come in three varieties: Deluxe, All Meat and Garden. All feature fresh cheese and Marco’s original sauce recipe, and will set you back roughly eight bucks.
We’re struggling to wrap our heads round this one, tbh. So it’s essentially a … pizza-flavored casserole?
Here’s what Marco's Pizza SVP, Chief Experience Officer Steve Seyferth has to say on the matter: "The Specialty Pizza Bowl is everything you love about pizza minus the crust. As one of the nation's fastest-growing pizza brands, adapting to consumer trends is part of our DNA. While others in the QSR space have developed breadless options, this concept is bold and refreshing for our category – it will transform the way people eat and enjoy their pizza."
"Marco's Pizza will always be committed to high-quality ingredients – this product allows us to do so in a new, innovative, and carb-conscious way," said Seyferth. "We wanted to give pizza lovers another option to eating their favorite food. No one can match our beloved toppings wrapped together in a delicious baked bowl. Marco's officially gives you permission to eat pizza with a fork!"
Pizza with a fork?! *Shudder*.
Pizza bowls: good for the diet-conscious, or sacrilegious pizza crime?
