Plant-based sausage is the most ordered food of 2021, according to Grubhub
At No.2 – amazingly – we have bubble milk tea
Veganism is on the rise, but it still might come as a bit of a surprise that a plant-based sausage wrap is the most ordered food of 2021 (so far) on American food ordering app, Grubhub. It also took the top spot by a considerable margin.
Overall, orders for vegan burgers have increased by 28%, while plant-based options in general have increased by 17% in the first six months of 2021 with cauliflower, mushroom and tofu-based foods being at the top of list.
The top five cities for vegan orders – perhaps no surprise here – are Los Angeles, NYC, Portland, Miami and Philadelphia.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not amazed to find plant-based meat at number one but I'm indeed shocked to find out that the second most popular food is - drum roll, please - bubble milk tea. I don't think I've ever even tried that. I'm not sure I know what that is, actually. But no matter, that's No.2, followed by tacos, omelettes and strawberry banana cream smoothies. Which is oddly specific.
Meanwhile, last year's Number 1 choice, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, took the No. 9 spot on the list this year. Speaking of 'hot', spicy foods are still popular as cajun fries, red beans and rice and jalapeño bites are the number 1, 2 and 3 most-ordered side dishes.
In terms of sweet treats, French silk pies take the number 1 spot, and when it comes to booze, Dutch lager is the most-ordered beverage, followed by hot sake, Japanese beer, hibiscus margaritas, and blood orange margaritas.

Very nice! When I order food, my go to is always a vegan burger 😆 but lately I’m loving Vietnamese food and I wouldn’t say no to a good pizza! Now bubble milk tea, I’ve never had it before, and I wouldn’t mind trying it with some oat milk 😋

Curry. Did try vegetarian sausages a couple of weeks back. Great flavour but texture was all wrong and mushy. Stick with the 🐖
