  • No, because dinner is supposed to be social. To talk about your day, socialize. It’s kind of rude to pull out your phone or whatever during dinner. And that’s coming from someone with a million devices lol

    • Completely agree! It’s sad, going to a restaurant, and seeing all the families just staring at their phones, and kids playing electronics. It’s a family rule here, phones stay tucked away.

    • Yes! I salute you! We have our iPhones and iPads and computers. We won’t die if we’re without them for a few hours lol

  • I like taking my time to make my order and I dislike talking to people while I’m eating, so I’m fine with it... as long as there’s also rubbing alcohol nearby.

  • No disrespect to people with children on what i'm about to say. In a perfect world, there would be no devices at the table. But! In that world, children know how to behave when in a restaurant and the parents aswell. What i've seen in the real world working as a waitress, there were so many times I was happy the kids finally sat down with a tablet or phone. Running around the restaurant like they are on a playground, bothering other tables, setting up a tea party with all their toys in the middle of the aisle, playing on the stairs and getting their heads stuck.. all during rush hour. Even have a 2 year old boy following me around and pinching me in the butt. (#metoo) All this, working at fancy places, but family friendly. Where were the parents? At the table, enjoying themselves and once in a while calling their kids names from their table instead of getting them. The times I had to drag the kids back to their seats like a firm Mary Poppins and the ashamed looks on parents faces..

So yes, whatever it takes to keep children at the table. I don't mind people making a mess at the table (up to a certain point) because we have to clean that anyways. To serve, protect, babysit, teach, while keeping your cool and smiles..all included in the job. So sometimes thank god for tablets!

And when a 'perfect' family comes in for dinner, I make sure they get a great experience. Because then I actually have time to do my job properly.

  • What if you’re with people your not that fussed on talking to. Like the missis and the kids, my phone is really handy then. Plus their iPads stop them trying to kill each other while we wait for Food.

    • My two pick the restaurant by the gaming units available...

  • As a young adult, my friends and I do a little of both. We have conversations with each other and use our phones to show each other interesting things that can’t be described with just words. I admit, as a teenager I couldn’t get my eyes off my phone at the table but I think over a few years my generation got tired of it so we’ve adopted a balanced method.
