In Italy, there is a numerical code that establishes the type of breeding: 0 indicates that the egg comes from organic breeding; 1 indicates that the egg comes from hens raised outdoors; 2 indicates that the egg comes from a farm on the ground; 3 indicates that the egg comes from caged breeding.
We have an agreement with the backyard hens - we give them food, they give us eggs. However, they've realised we'll keep feeding even if they stop laying.
On those weeks, we usually buy free-range, partly because you do get accustomed to the deep yellow yolks of happily-socialising chickens.
I do agree on the free-range yolks... that’s what I buy. My wife doesn’t care she just picks up what’s on the shelf. I have to keep reminding her to buy free-range and organic
I grow my own, I currently have 26 girls that lay me breakfast daily. I love my chickens! If I had known how much fun chickens would be I would have had them years ago.

I always choose 0.
Wow that’s a good system. I wish we had that
Oh you know, Italian food is very controlled, both in terms of ingredients and origin

I am so jealous, I would love to keep chickens. Are they friendly?
I don't buy eggs . My wife does. When we can get them we prefer brown farm eggs.
Lucky you...
Lol I know right

I cannot imagine how that must be like....But fresh eggs. You cannot go wrong with that.
If I can get farm fresh that is what I prefer. If not I just pick up whatever at the store.
