Puffies recipe – easy snack treats everyone will love
Simple, relatively fast and most importantly, you can make them exactly how you'll like them
Pastry lovers - beware! I'm incapable of doing my own puff pastry, so I bought it packed and ready to bake. On the positive side, it saves you countless hours and with the baking, the whole thing needs just under an hour to make. All you need is love. And some ingredients, of course. Here's my short list, but you can make your own, depending on your preferences.
Puff pastry - 800 grams or two sheets, 400 grams each
Beef baloney (goes great with the tomato ketchup and the smoked Scamorza)
Three different kinds of cheese - white brined, combo 50/50 of yellow semi-hard and smoked Scamorza
Tomato ketchup or any tomato-based sauce
Black olives (not a fan, but they go really well with the white brined cheese)
Dried spices and herbs (no cayenne pepper or black pepper)
Unroll the sheets carefully, then take a brush and spread a thin layer of ketchup on one side of both sheets. Now start putting your other ingredients, starting with the baloney, then the cheese, the olives and finish with the dried spices and herbs. After you do it, it should look like that:
Now roll them like a Swiss roll and when you're done, get a sharp knife and start cutting pieces, a lot like sushi, actually. Choose your size, depending on how thick or thin you want them to be. I prefer them thin, so I would put two fingers up top as a measure. Here's what it should look like:
And you're ready to bake them. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Now get a tray, baking paper and start putting the mini rolls 90 degrees sideways, relative to the way you've cut them. Leave some space between them, because they will get puffy and you don't want them to stick together. Before going into the oven, the tray should look like that:
Put them in the preheated oven and bake until completion. The end result should look like that:
