Quintessential German: Black Forest Cake is awesome!
And today I had a slab in its birthplace.
There are many beautiful cakes out there in the world. Some of them are even from Germany.
The Black Forest Cake, or the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte as we call it, is definitely one of those.
Since I just moved to the area where the cake comes from, the Schwarzwald, I today decided to grab myself a nice piece of it at a local bakery.
Usually, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte is not my favourite cake. Not even by a long shot. But it had to be, and even I had a tiny hankering for it.
Usually, Black Forest Cake is made with a cookie base covered in layers of chocolate sponge, whipped cream and cherries infused with Black Forest Cherry liquor.
Normally, there is more sponge than cream and cherry. But not this time.
So little Cherry.
There was a lot of white sponge, which was kinda tasty. Sadly, there was actually very little cherry in the cherry cake. That was a bit of a bummer.
The cherry on top was also very jello-y. At least the cake tasted good overall.
It is also not the best version I ever had though.
