Today was a great Day. After receiving some bad News yesterday, I was able to spend some Time with most of my Family (Mostly Vaccinated, our Dinner was perfectly legal). We had not been able to do that for too long.

We also had some very delicious Rinderouladen, which were originally planned for Christmas, but since that did not happen, we had to have them today.

So nice.

So nice.

In my Opinion, my Oma makes the absolute best Rouladen I could ever ask for. She uses Beef, Ham, Mustard and, I believe, Onions and maybe Pickle Slices which are placed in Layers and then rolled into a Roulade.

The best, and only Way, I have ever eaten Rinderrouladen is with Red Cabbage, or Rotkohl with Gravy and some nice Semmelknödel. It is always delicious that Way, even if the ROtkohl and the Knödel are not Home-made.

My Oma modifies her Rotkohl a lot though (Top Secret), so that really is no Shortcoming. It just makes Things a lot easier when you have to cook for the savages we are. Not a bit of that Rotkohl survived today.

I love my Omas Rouladen.

I love my Omas Rouladen.

Traditionally, Rouladen are held together by Cooking Twine to keep them from unrolling during the cooking process. My Oma uses Tooth Picks though, and those obviously have to be removed prior to enjoying the Food.

Sometimes, those little Wooden Things are hard to find, but I have never actually found one in my Mouth, so I guess the Method works well enough.

The Rouladen, Knödel and Rotkohl are not the only Essentials though. Gravy is definitely a must. Luckily, that Stuff is pretty much completely made when cooking/ pre-roasting the Rouladen, a Process which involves Beer.

That is not all that is to it though. All those nice Meet Juices and all those 'burned' Bits just are the Base of the Gravy. A lot of Things are added to turn it into a usable, very delicious Sauce. Like Red Wine. Actually, you need mostly Red Wine for that.

Without it, the Meal just would not be the Same.

Today, we had Semmelknödel with our Rouladen. But as usual, those were not self-made. That just would have been too much Work. Also, those Things never really turn out as planned when you do not have the neccesary Experience.

Knödel & Rouladen.

I will always love my Omas Rinderrouladen, but today they were especially delicious. I got to enjoy them with my Family, and that was pure awesomeness. The C-Word had kept us apart for too long.

At this Point, I also want to Congratulate Fulana Food Burgler on guessing my Meal once again. She needed tow Attempts, but she still won a few Tribecoins for her Efforts.

  • I love Rinderrouladen and Rotkohl, especially if the cabbage is self made. I usually make cabbage once or twice a year because it takes quite a bit of time, but it’s always so great 😍
