Reasonably priced Whisk(e)y #1
Introducing spirits below 100€/£/$ - USA
Starting today I will show and evaluate some liquid stuff. The Background of this and the future posts on this topic shows one of the poppies which flooded the Tower of London in 2014 called Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red.
I stayed in London with my family during some weeks of this summer and was facinated by the amazing Spectra of London. Some days later we also visited the Poppy-Installation at the tower.
About that time I also became a fan of this liquid tread called uisge beatha / usquebaugh, better known as Whisk(e)y. Knowing that there is nearly no price limit with Whisky I decided not to spend more than 100€ per bottle what in my eyes is far expensive enough. Of course I'm looking for special offers to realize this limitation. Many items were bought from a Dutch dealer through the internet, others in local stores in Germany.
Today's choice: Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select - my only Bourbon after some evil experiences during my youth with something called bean ... or anything similar to that.
The Single Barrel Select comes along in a rather pretty shaped bottle. The price range is about 29-39€ per bottle and stays rather stable through the last 10 years since 2010.
Volume: 70cl. Strength: 45%. Colour: amber. Flavour: notes of vanilla and orange - maybe someone can find the announced mint - I can't. Taste: sweet vanilla and a bit of oak, no peat detectable for me. Finish: smooth and not too short.
In general it's not that bad - but at the end of the day it's nothing else than perfectly destilled and aged chickenfeed although ice can help a bit.
Nice, but nothing more.
