Montreal is home to many foods you won't find anywhere else. Some will try to imitate it but none will succeed.
Smoked Meat is one of these "only in Montreal" things. For those of you who've never heard of such a thing, it's brisket that has been smoked and spiced with "Montreal Steak Spice". It is cut in thin-ish slices and piled high between two slices of rye bread and a bit of mustard. I say a bit because it is usually served with a tiny amount of mustard and then they bring you the entire bottle of French's mustard so you can add as much as you want. If you are a mustard lover like I am, smoked meat is a perfect vehicle for it.
The classic side to this decadent pile of meat is to have your dessert while you're eating; a classic diner style vanilla milkshake.
