Som Saa Thai restaurant seeks crowdfunding to open second venue
So this little story begins with Masterchef 2009 when Andy Oliver was a contestant that reached the finals in Bangkok that year. When the show was over Andy was lucky enough to secure a job at Nahm with the absolute guru of Thai food David Thomson.
If you don't know who David is take a look at his book Thai Food - trust me it's a game changer!
After a few years Andy came back and worked for The Begging Bowl then set up an amazing pop up called Som Saa with Mark Dobbie.
Cooking for the pop up in the container in 2015
I first went in 2015 - it was knockout - food served in a small coffee factory - a lot of the food was cooked on the outdoor BBQ and everything else had to happen in a little kitchen in a container outside.
The following year the chefs held an astonishing crowdfunding campaign and easily bust their target - they managed to raise 700k in just hours.
With that funding they opened a much swishier place in Spitalfields and broadened the menu. Impressively they have since served a whopping 220,000 customers - there is always a queue for their delicious food.
Now for the news - they have just launched a second phase of crowdfunding to open a second restaurant and if you are interested in being part of it or just want to go and sample their amazing food you can find the details here.
