Sometimes you can't go back, FoodTribe
When revisiting your childhood goes wrong
Awhile back my wife and I were talking about childhood memories and one of them was Chef Boyardee pizza maker. For those of you that do not know what this is it's a pizza kit that has everything you need to make a pizza. The kit includes a bag of powder you add to water to make the dough, a can of pizza sauce that also contains mini pepperoni. When I was a child it also came with a bag of dried parmesan cheese and that's it. I do not think you can buy the kit with the cheese in it anymore so I had to improvise.
I have very fond memories of this pizza kit as a child, it was a bit of a treat on those nights when we would stay up watching movies on TV. After helping mom prepare the pizza I would wait by the oven for our tasty creation to be ready. After dividing the pizza up between the three of us, mom and dad would sit on the couch and I would lay on the floor in front of the floor model TV and eat our pizza. Just a reminder to those too young to remember this was when a TV was a big heavy wooden box with an actual glass screen and big knobs to change between the three channels. Who remembers those?
So I decided I wanted to relive those days, except with a nice modern TV. So with a night of movie watching planned I started making the pizza from a box. FoodTribe this is when it all went wrong. The dough felt and smelled weird and the sauce with pepperoni made me question my choice in making this. I continued on and topped it with what I remembered to be the amount of dried parmesan cheese from back then. I tossed it in the oven with childhood fondness and a lot of hope.
This is what come out of the oven you all. It looks rather sad and unappealing, nothing like I remember from childhood. After slicing it up I went and sat on the couch just like my parents did back then. Instead of being taken back to fond childhood memories I was in regret and disgust for this terrible pizza. FoodTribe sometimes you just can't go back.
Raise your hand if you remember the TVs I am talking about. Have you ever tried to revisit a childhood food memory and it went wrong? Tell me about it in the comments. I hope your week has went well. Stay wonderful FoodTribe! I love you all!
