CNN is launching a brand new travel cooking show, exploring the cuisine of Italy.

And who better to take us on a culinary adventure around the land of pasta than self-confessed Italian food lover Stanley Tucci.

The actor is set to host “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy”, according to Deadline.

Amy Entelis, EVP, Talent and Content Development, CNN, said: “We started talking to Stanley and quickly realised that Italy and Italian food was a tremendous passion of his. This is a love letter to Italy by Stanley Tucci. He wanted to explore the stories and people behind the food of Italy. He’s a wonderfully appealing actor and he brought that passion to the subject.”

The star of The Hunger Games and The Devil Wears Prada spent a year living in Florence in the ‘70s and is a major foodie. He also co-directed and starred in Big Night, a comedy from the ‘90s about two Italian immigrants who set up their own restaurant. Tucci has even published his own cookbooks - so he’s really got chops when it comes to food and cooking.

For the four-part series, Tucci will journey to different regions across Italy, looking at the history of the cuisine there and how it developed. Florence, Rome, Sicily and Milan are all on the itinerary.

According to Deadline, Tucci said: “I wanted to do this series because I am fascinated by the diversity of Italian cuisine and set out to gain a better understanding of the country’s rich history and culture. This was a passion project and love letter to the place where my family is from. I am thrilled to be working with CNN on this project as an admirer of their reporting and original series, which are incredibly smart, compelling, and beautifully produced.”

  • Everything about pasta is civilised, from it's simplicity to it's convenience, through it's subtle comforting texture, and versatility.

Spinach ravioli with pesto, a drizzle of Hawaiian macadamia nut oil, a dusting of garlic powder, and a memory of Parmesan, is a fine dish indeed.
