Subway teams up with Walkers to add crisps as a filling option
Has Subway seen James May's video?
The crisp sandwich. There's no sandwich, at least in my opinion, that's more British than that. If you ever grew up in the UK or have ever lived there for any lengthy amount of time, it's pretty likely that you've either tried a sandwich with crisps in it as one of the fillings or at least seen one of your friends eat one. Now it seems that even Subway has noticed the ever-present popularity of the crisp sandwich, as it's teamed up with Walkers to offer crisps as a filling option!
Customers will be asked whether they want to 'crisp in' or 'crisp out' when they order a sub, wrap or salad at any of Subway's UK stores. You can pick your filling options as usual, but crisps will now be available as one of the 53 extras you can add on top of your regular fillings. The crisp option will add an extra 20p to the cost of your sandwich. You won't be able to just have crisps as a filling though, something that'll surely come as a disappointment to anyone who prefers to only have crisps and nothing else in their crisp sandwiches. For those of us who option to 'crisp out', you can pick up a bag of Walkers crisps on the side as part of the meal deal.
"The crisp sandwich is an iconic and important part of Britain’s culinary traditions and we’re excited to partner with Walkers to allow guests to now order one in store," said Angelina Gosal, Head of Marketing UK & Ireland at Subway. "With the addition of Walkers crisps to the toppings you can add to our Subs, we have one of the biggest, tastiest and the crunchiest menus on the high street! "
"‘As a nation, we may not agree on everything, but we are united in the fact that a lunchtime sandwich without crisps is just not the same," said Fernando Kahane, Marketing Director at Walkers. "That’s why we’ve teamed up with Subway to offer extra Walkers crunch with your Subs and to ensure lunchtimes are even more enjoyable. "
As you might expect, this offer will only be available for a limited time. Who knows, though; if it's popular enough, it might stay as a filling option forever! If it doesn't though, you could always buy a bag of crisps as part of a meal deal and stick them in the sandwich yourself.
All this talk from Subway about crisps as a sandwich filling does leave us asking the question of whether Subway has seen a certain video on crisp sandwiches and chip sandwiches made by our very own James May. Maybe somebody in the office saw it and thought that it was worth cashing in on? Maybe Subway might offer chips as a filling option too down the line? Stranger things have happened...

I'll take two, please ❤️
I'm still waiting for Walkers to put some more crisps in their bags of air.
1000x yes!
I’ll take my crisps however they come 😜
I'm a bit sad it's only Ready Salted. Everyone knows the superior crisp is Salt & Vinegar!
LIES
It's Beef & Onion flavour
Nothing wrong with ready salted!
