The administrative side of where I work was having a luncheon today, and needed a grill to cook on. They called over to my division looking for said instrument of fire, and I ended up involved. I took over the duties of grill master for their luncheon, starting with moving the big beast of a grill to an appropriate location to use it (it was on our firing range), getting the charcoal fired up and settled in, and the cooking.

It wasn't my best grilling ever! I was provided with a bunch of frozen hamburger patties, turkey burger patties, and a ton of hot dogs. The coals hadn't quite settled in yet and there were some hot spots that resulted in uneven, over cooking. But I got their lunch off the beast and I hope they enjoyed it. But after all of that was done, a coworker and I stood there looking at the hot, beast of a grill, and thought what a waste it was the hot charcoals were going to go to waste and burn out. There was no sense in wasting that heat, so we hopped in a car and went to the supermarket!

This thing is a BEAST!

At the supermarket, I picked up two bacon wrapped filets and some Caesar pasta salad. My work buddy grabbed a T-bone steak for himself, and a half pound of raw shrimp. Once we got back to the office, we used what we had on hand to season everything; Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning. Hell, I found it in the cabinet in the office breakroom. It worked!

By now, the charcoals had settled in perfectly and cooking the steaks went very nicely. The meats came out to a nice medium rare, and I cooked the shrimp to the point they were a nice and opaque. The grill was still blazing hot, but it was cooking a lot more even at this point. It made for a fun time!

I "plated" my lunch, two bacon wrapped filets with grilled shrimp and Caesar pasta salad, on a paper plate I had in my desk drawer and grabbed a fork from somewhere else. My pocket knife pulled duty as a steak knife and it worked pretty damn well. Don't worry, I washed it! Lunch was gooooooooood! My bacon wrapped filets came out perfectly medium rare. My buddy's steak looked pretty damn good too. He seemed happy with it! The shrimp made my little surf n' turf complete. The Tony Chachere's seasoning had a nice heat to it and the Caesar pasta salad help quell that a little. Not a bad lunch at work!!!!
