the Doritos Locos Taco
The DLT is of course one of the wacky brainchildren of the lunatics of the Taco Bell test kitchens at YUM! Restaurant Company. It's a regular crunch taco, except...the shell is made of Nacho Cheese Dorito! No, you can't get the Ranch or the Flaming Hot varieties, which is fine with me but hey, your mileage may vary. It's one per drive-thru customer only, no purchase necessary but hey, if you're gonna wait in line for one taco, why not purchase a few more? Throw in a Caramel Apple Empanada. Make it a meal. This is 'Murrica!
The really great things Taco Bell is doing, through their Foundation, include a million dollar pledge to No Kid Hungry, an organization that is more vital than ever now that schools are closed and many low income children are not able to have access to school lunch and breakfast in many cases. The one million free tacos ties in with the million dollar pledge. The Taco Bell Foundation is also continuing with distributing excess food to local food banks as well as mobilizing food trucks to serve medical personnel and first responders dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.
Since joining FoodTribe, I've been paying more attention to the PR being output by restaurants. Sure, some of the more subversive offerings are often hilarious, but it is very nice to see this sobering, responsible type of action offered by an otherwise lighthearted, often silly entity. I will be in line tomorrow, and I will thank my server, as always.
