Tacos and toilet paper: a survival kit for Southern Californians
A Los Angeles taco spot is delivering toilet paper with your tacos
Here in Los Angeles, the stores’ shelves are alarmingly bare. The city’s mayor has repeatedly reassured citizens that there is *not* a shortage of food. But in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, toilet paper remains elusive, as fear leads to people hoarding essentials.
Restaurants across the LA area have been ordered to close, save for takeout and delivery. And one delivery service in particular has caught our eye: tacos and toilet paper.
Yes, this unlikely (but extremely useful) pairing was the idea of Guerilla Tacos, a downtown LA taco spot. They’ve created an ‘Emergency Taco Kit’ which includes four rolls of toilet paper and everything you need to make a taco feast for four people.
The kit will set you back $150 and is described as “a true Angeleno survival pack in these crazy and uncertain times”.
Each pack includes five pounds of roasted chicken, five pounds of carne asada, a quart of red salsa, a quart of green salsa, tortillas, onion, cilantro, rice, beans, and 30 eggs. It’s available for pickup between 9am an 9pm, or you may be able to arrange for delivery on request.
On March 16 there was a countywide closure of all restaurants and bars, which, according to Eater, will affect more than 10 million residents and businesses. Another Los Angeles spot, Four Cafe, is offering free delivery and free toilet paper on orders of their organic Indian cuisine.
