Teriyaki chicken pizza is a Japanese favourite, but as an Italian, I'm not sure

I love Japan and of course I love Japanese food. I also love Italian food and that's no great surprise, is it? But what if the two gastronomic cultures overlap?
The favourite Japanese pizza topping seems to be Teriyaki Chicken. And the teriyaki sauce base is made up of soy sauce, sake, sugar, and mirin.
I love Teriyaki Chicken. And of course, I love pizza. But... Teriyaki chicken on a pizza? Thinking about it seems dry.
In Italy, no pizzeria prepares this topping – it's probably illegal – and I cannot do it at home without triggering diplomatic incidents, so I ask the Tribers: what do you think?
