The best places to try English food in London

I've written this article for the benefit of overseas visitors to London, because it's actually quite difficult to find English food here

I consider London to be one of the food capitals of the world. But, "of the world" is the key point here.

There are so many fantastic cuisines on offer that it's sometimes difficult to focus on what English food really is.

Luckily, these folks make it easy for you.

I think it's one of the best places in the Spitalfields area for breakfast, whether it's for a full English or a more classic Eggs Benedict.

However, it's also unbeatable at other times of the day for fish and chips, Sunday lunch or a great place to try the iconic pie and mash.

I also highly rate Simpsons in the Strand for roast meat, and of course Claridge's or The Ritz for afternoon tea.

Can you recommend other places in London for English food?

  • I would not know but the hotel I stayed, at last, served us a delightful breakfast. The JW Marriott Grosvernor house at Marble Arch. However, I would love the eggs on toast here.
