The first fruits and vegetables from our garden this year

My wife's hard work is starting to pay off!

A few years back, I put together a little area for my wife, Stacey, to garden in the side yard. It's not the best garden in the world; I really didn't know what I was doing. But my beautiful wife has made the situation work, and I love the results!

Because it's just the two of us, Stacey doesn't go too crazy growing stuff. She's got four blueberry bushes that were planted a few years back that have just really started producing fruit. Stacey also loves cucumber on her salads, so she has two of those in the ground, ready to grow up some trellises I scored for free. We love fresh tomatoes, so Stacey has two regular tomato plants in the ground as well as two cherry tomato plants. We use a lot of jalapeno, so we've got two of those. And as a bonus this year, Stacey is trying watermelon so I can make her watermelon mojitos!

Hopefully these ripen soon. I can't wait for tomato sandwiches!

These are coming out nice and big this year. I think I will stuff 'em with cream cheese!

These will provide some cucumbers to Stacey a little later in the season.

On the back deck, Stacey's garden continues! Stacey has grown rosemary and oregano from plants that seem to have survived several seasons. This year she's added basil and mint. Stacey dries the rosemary, oregano, and basil for me to use in various recipes. And I will be making Stacey a lot of mojitos with the mint from her garden!

The first little bit of fruit and veggies Stacey gets to pick always seems pretty special during the season. Stacey gets very happy as she sees what her plants are producing as she picks the small handful of items and looks like a little kid with excitement. I love watching it! :D

It's not much. But it will be a lot in no time! Just some cherry tomatoes, blueberries about to ripen, and a single jalapeno.

  • I'm impressed, and slightly sullen because my best vegetable garden project never got this far

    • I prayed to all the gods of soil, wind, water, and plant fertility but my cucumbers were still bitter and my zucchini became a weed
