The Jam and Cream Debate

Do you jam or cream first? That is the question

1y ago

It's a touchy topic. The argument of whether you should cream or jam your scone has been around since the 11th century and its been non-stop since.

Those in Devon are well known to spread the clotted cream first with jam last, in contrast the Cornish folk spread the jam first and then the cream!

Yet the Royal verdict is in! The royal chef between 1982-1993 stated “Jam first at Buckingham Palace garden parties!” Darren McGrady wrote on Twitter. “The Queen always had homemade Balmoral jam first, with clotted cream on top at Buckingham Palace garden parties in the royal tea tent and all royal tea parties.”

  • The Queen is right. And it should be the aerosol cream so you can spray it into your mouth when you're done.

  • I prefer eating my homemade scones with only jam.

  • Not only that, but there is the other age old question. Is it pronounced ‘sKoN’ or ‘Scone’? If you say the former, get out.

  • I feel like the description of the article is a euphemism for something 😕...

Anyways. Who puts two different types of spread on anything that isn't a sandwich?

    Blasphemy. Of the highest order.

  • Great question! Jam first, clotted cream on top. No brainer.
