Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. Bringing together families, friends, and communities, it also happens to be one of the culinary highlights of the year for many.

Roast dinners, turkeys, and all the trimmings are commonplace on Thanksgiving tables. But, it turns out that it's not the de-facto favorite Thanksgiving meal across the states, as the map below shows.

It turns out that the side dishes are the most exciting part of the meal, according to a study by Zippia.

Perhaps not surprisingly, mashed potatoes took the crown as the most-loved side dish. However, there were some unusual contenders in the mix, such as Green Bean casserole, Cream Corn, and Deviled Eggs.

It is also interesting to note the regional preferences on the map - such as the north/south divide between lovers and haters of Sweet Potato dishes, or how Mashed Potatoes seem most popular in the northern states.

Whatever your favorite dish may be, it's certainly a hot topic across the states! Let us know your favorite Thanksgiving side dish below, and let's see what the FOODTRIBE favorite is!

  • I can agree with that Hawaii one. Usually in most cases, turkey with gravy tends to be a more festive rarity especially around November and December.

True it has turkey plates here but it's just not the same unless it's cut from the bird itself when it comes out of the oven. Pretty sure some might have done huli style cooking with turkey as well
