This cheese lover's on a vegan cheese mission...
Trying out the new White Rabbit Co Vegan Arrabbiata pizza, and trying to find really good vegan cheese
Veganuary may have just finished, but the vegan conversation is now a year-round thing. While I'm not vegan, I've taken part in several Veganuarys, and would never turn my nose up at trying new things, including trying to find great vegan versions of non-vegan food. In the past few years I've definitely cut down on the amount of meat I eat, and I'm really trying to 'eat less, eat better' in many respects.
One of my best friends is coeliac, and she (like basically everyone in the world) loves pizza. She's always said how great White Rabbit is for a gluten-free alternative. White Rabbit has recently launched its first wheat-base pizza (so not one for the coeliacs out there), but it is vegan.
How is it?
The Vegan Arrabbiata is topped with spicy chicken-free strips, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red onion and finished with creamy Mozzarisella, and I was keen to give it a try.
We've seen the big delivery guys launching vegan pizzas, with Domino's and Pizza Hut going nationwide with their offerings. Chicago Town has also brought vegan pizza to the supermarket frozen aisle, and now, White Rabbit has joined the vegan pizza party.
And it's really good.
The chicken-free strips have the same taste and texture as chicken-chicken on takeaway pizzas, the hint of spice is great, the base was nice, chewy and quite thick (if you like that sorta thing!), and importantly, the Mozzarisella actually tasted cheesy (unlike some other vegan cheese I've tried) and melted really nicely as well. In fact the 'cheese' was so nice, I wish there had been more of it.
Vegan cheese can be made from all sorts of things: coconut, cashew, nuts, soy, vegetables, but the White Rabbit 'cheese' is rice based.
Now we know how important cheese is to people. It recently topped the list of reasons people couldn't go vegan.
I've tried quite a bit of vegan cheese now, and it definitely seems to be getting better as time goes on. As ever with these things though, it's work in progress, and of course new products that get ever closer to the original will keep popping up.
We recently got into a bit of a vegan cheesy debate over on Twitter, with La Fauxmagerie cropping up several times as a great option for something close to the real thing...
What are the best vegan alternatives you've had? And would you happily eat a vegan pizza with chicken-free strips on it if you're a meat eater? Tell me alllll in the comments.

The only meme any of us ever needs...!
The vegan cheese options are getting better and better! My favourite brand is violife, and I’ve tried simply V, and their spices are really nice and melt as well! I’ve seen the Rabbit pizza, but I haven’t tried it yet!
My favourite in the U.K. was the margarita from wicked kitchen! 👌🏼
Yes! The Violife one is really good as well! Definitely get your hands on a White Rabbit pizza if you can, I'd love to know what you think! And I'll add the Wicked Kitchen one to my list as well!
Oh yes definitely!
Would definitely give it a try! Cheese is a weakness for me and if I could find a vegan option that was just as satisfying, I’d probably opt for it instead. 🧀😍
Oh definitely the same for me! My parents tried this one too and thought the faux chicken was a bit strange, but I honestly just thought it tasted like the chicken on Domino's pizzas, which is also a bit strange!
Lol! Hmm, Dominos, what’s your secret? Glad it was yummy! I’m sucker for those vegan breaded chick’n strip type things. Not sure if they have the Gardein brand in the UK, but I’d recommend them! Guess they’re really just a delivery system for...

Their sausages are amazing also. Definitely one of our favourite brands. I love them as a meat eater and I love that it means my vegetarian partner can enjoy something similar to my normal with me 🙂
