This is my last glass of wine
I sacrificed my wine.
Let me tell you how big of a sacrifice I made. This is my last bottle of red wine, and with the onset of the Coronavirus upon us, I had to sacrifice it. Moreover, I have never even tasted it.
Now you are thinking, why am I making such a big deal about it? Well, I live in Dubai. Which if you do not know is a city in the United Arab Emirates which is a part of the Middle East.
Now being an Islamic country, there are some rules and regulations we need to follow concerning buying, consuming and storing alcohol.
We can buy alcohol only from designated government-approved shops. However, before we do that, we have to obtain a special license which is given to us by the police. Also, the license comes with an alcohol purchasing limit which depends on your salary. Also, the prices at these shops are crazy expensive because of taxes levied upon the alcohol.
All of us have the license. However, most of us buy our alcohol when we are coming into the city from the airport duty-free, which is much much cheaper. And with this virus threat, all travel plans are shelved.
So now you know what it is like for me to give up my last bottle of red wine.
Anyways coming to the point, my wife is a pastry chef. I am pretty sure she knows her stuff because she always has people calling her up to place orders from her.
Yesterday a client of hers called her and asked for a Red Wine Raspberry Gateau. As she does not drink wine, the collection is under my jurisdiction.
Recently my attention has been focused on acquiring some whiskies and wine has taken a back seat. However, when I realized this is my last bottle of red, I was quite sad.
However, after seeing the result of my sacrifice, I am quite happy to report that it has fulfilled its destiny. You can be the judge of that by looking at the pictures. Also, she left enough red wine for a last glass.
So, Cheers! And stay safe! I am going to drink my last glass of red wine.......for the moment.
Oh, and I did not taste the cake.
