This unfortunate homemade pasta looks a lot like worms
What should we call this new shape? Maggotini?
Making your own pasta from scratch is one of those things you just have to do at some point in your life – and chances are you'll do it a few times, nod appreciatively at how tasty it is… and then go back to buying pasta from the supermarket. Because it's never worth the effort, and we're still finding flour in our underwear.
That's a life lesson that's just dawned on a Reddit user over on our favourite sub, /r/shittyfoodporn. The wonderfully named user Apieceofbreaddough says they tried creating a new pasta shape but ended up with something more fit for Halloween than fine dining in a Tuscan vineyard restaurant.
Stick a hook in it and see what you can catch
It looks like a very condensed form of fusilli, while several people over on Reddit have pointed out that it brings back haunting childhood memories of the grub scene from Disney's The Lion King (the original, not whatever the memory-ruining hell that was we were subjected to last year).
Uncanny
The only real question is whether this new slightly alarming pasta shape deserves a new name, perhaps one that reflects its slightly wormy shape. Suggestions on reddit so far include Maggotini, creepy noodles and our favourite, Grotini.

Looks like maggots 😟
The more I look at this the more I think it might be the most satisfying pasta shape to sink your teeth into...
You are probably right about that but you would have to close your eyes! Lol
Be good for a Halloween get together
It doesn't help that some of the shapes in that pic resemble worms with one end hacked off by a garden spade. My name suggestion: crawlerchetti. Anyway ... the closest I get to making pasta from scratch is making spaetzle from scratch, and that's okay.
