With 2020 having been such a wild ride, many of us have sought comfort in the little things in life. Movies, snacks, and viral video content, courtesy of TikTok - who have just released their list of the most popular food trends on the platform from 2020.

We've already reported that there was a massive uptake in those learning new skills or developing their culinary prowess during 2020, but that extended to those showcasing their new talents on TikTok.

Making products such as Hazlenut spread, Chocolate and Ice Cream Cake from scratch made it into the top 10 trends, along with a more savoury approach for making a strange combo from bell peppers, cream cheese, bagel seasoning and pepperoni. Apparently, it's delicious, but I can't say I've given it a go!

Of course, plenty of TikTok users found a great source of humour in celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey's viral video roastings, where he tore into other chef's work on the app, including his own daughter.

Moving into the top five, you really get a sense of just how strange 2020 has been for us all.

Donut cereal came in at number 5 on TikTok's trend report. The concept was simple, taking tiny doughnuts, frying them, frosting them, and then serving them cereal-style in a bowl with milk. While that may not exactly sound exciting, it clearly lapped up the views!

Next up was one of the more delicious, if still unusual trends of the year - ASMR Barbequeing. Both soothing to listen to and able to elicit deep, guttural growls from your stomach, listening to someone cook food over coals has never seemed so entertaining.

Number three shouldn't shock anyone, as it was one of the biggest trends of the year - banana bread. Everywhere you looked online back in the first half of the year, people were seemingly experimenting with making banana bread, for reasons that are still unclear to me.

In at number two on the list is the incredible but frustratingly-difficult 'whipped coffee' trend, more correctly known as Dalgona coffee. This Korean trend exploded across the internet during 2020, with plenty of videos immortalising both success and utter failure to make this popular coffee-based dish.

Finally, the one you've been waiting for - the number one spot on the list, goes to... pancake cereal. No, I'm not sure why either. Apparently, this was the coolest culinary trend on the internet this year according to TikTok, so who am I to argue?

Does pancake cereal deserve the number one spot? Let us know below!

  • Nup, pancake cereal's like hashbrown cereal - amazing breakfasts don't have to combo.
