Trying something new - Peeps!
Two non-traditional Peeps flavors, are they worth a try?
If you have been to the grocery store recently (likely you have, to stock your own bunker kitchen in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic), you may have noticed Easter candy is already on the shelves. One of the most popular Easter candies in the United States and Canada is Peeps.
Peeps are fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth marshmallows with a granulated sugar coating, molded into the shapes of chicks (primarily). They were created in 1953 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and have been a staple in Easter baskets ever since. They have a bit of a cult following, though they are beloved by many.
During various holidays, Peeps are available in different shapes for a limited time, such as ghosts for Halloween and trees for Christmas. The holidays also bring special flavors like pumpkin spice, candy corn, and peppermint candy cane. There are all year round flavors including the standard marshmallow (available in every color of the rainbow), party cake, sour watermelon, fruit punch, cotton candy, and mystery flavors.
In time for Easter 2020, Peeps has released five new limited edition flavors: Root Beer Float, Fruit Loops, Hot Tamales Fierce Cinnamon, Raspberry Delights Dipped in Crème Fudge, and Chocolate Pudding. I picked up pancakes and syrup chicks, and the new chocolate pudding bunnies. As far as I found through research, pancakes and syrup Peeps were first introduced in 2018 and have been sold at limited times only.
Pancakes and syrup taste mostly like what they should! They have a good sweetness to them, the maple syrup is flavorful enough, and thankfully not overpowering. They taste like the syrup more than the pancake. I'm not sure how they would even mimic a pancake flavor. My rating is 7/10 on these, and I would buy them again, even though it feels a little strange to eat them at any time other than breakfast.
Chocolate pudding are by far the best flavored marshmallow I've ever had, and I've tried quite a few brands and flavors. They taste like a rich hot chocolate infused into a soft plushy marshmallow. It's like an extremely light but sticky mousse. They are delightful, especially if you just want something chocolate-y to taste but don't want to reach for a full candy bar. I give these a perfect rating of 10/10! Yes, if you like chocolate and marshmallows, you must at least try these!
