Vintage Treats: Do you know Leckmuscheln?
Vintage Treats that are still being 'enjoyed' today.
I had my first Contact with Leckmuscheln that I remember when I was eight Years old (ca. 2002) and spent a Week on Sylt with my Mom and Brother.
Leckmuscheln are Hard Candies in Plastic Sea Shells that you are supposed to lick out of the Shell. And that's also where the Name comes from. Lecken means to Lick and Muschel means Sea Shell.
I had not seen Leckmuscheln in a while when I found some at the local Woolworth and just had to buy a Pack of 6 for this Series.
A single Leckmuschel.
But according to my super scientific Research (Wikipedia). Leckmuscheln where actually made as early as the 1960ies, possibly even earlier.
And I doubt much has changed since them. Leckmuscheln still are mostly Sugar and Foodcolouring. They don't have much Flavour in them, if there is any at all.
A Leckmuschel out of its Shell.
Contrary to Kinder Überraschung, Leckmuscheln actually are a Choking Hazard if you take them in your Mouth and then mangle them out of Shape. There is even a Warning on the Packaging.
Do you know Leckmuscheln? I honestly have no Idea if they where ever sold outside of Germany.

I have never seen or heard of that before. Interesting.
Maybe it’s a unique German Thing.
Might be.
Those look fascinating. I have never seen anything like it!
I almost thought as much when I did my Research for the Story.
Wow, that brings back memories! I've loved them throughout my childhood. When I was at school (early 90s), our local bakery used to sell them for a few pennies each... hard to get them nowadays.
So true. I was delighted when I saw them at Woolworth.
Where are you from? I've never heard of Woolworths...
I never seen this candy before or candies with sea shell shape 🤔
They are quite hard to get by here in Germany.
I have never tried them and I have never seen them in my country 😲 - they look so cute
I have never seen Leckmuscheln outside of Germany. And they are getting increasingly harder to come by here. Was surprised I found some in a Store!
Have the same with corn chips called "Maczugi" what In English would mean "Clubs" . Mayo and Ketchup flavour. Lovely memories. Couple years ago I ate them last time by accident found them in shop with new graphic design
