Vintage Treats that are Quintessentially German: Candied almonds recipe
Vintage Treats & Quintessential German Christmas Crossover Event
Imagine the situation: You stroll across your local Weihnachtsmarkt and get a little peckish. You need something sweet that can also quench a little hunger.
You come around a corner, and the smell of Candied Almonds, or gebrannte Mandeln here in Germany, hits your nostrils and ignites a lingering feeling of Christmas.
Sadly, there are no Christmas markets this year.
A Bag of Almonds.
Good thing that Candied Almonds are relatively easy to make. Even better is that my Mom made me some, with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Branntmandeln are pretty much the most Christmassy thing going. They are deliciously sweet, but also somewhat savoury – of course depending on the ingredients used.

The brown sugar and cinnamon ones sound delightful.
They are really tasty. (But also less sweet. My Mom used half Sugar.)
I would be ok with that. 🙂
Candied almonds are so delicious 😍. It seems are not so difficult to make 🤔
They are supposed to be relatively easy to make, but I have never tried myself.
Sounds good! Are you using regular sugar or brown sugar in the recipe?
Both would work. My Mom used Brown, I think I am going to try with Maple Syrup.
Can't wait to hear how that goes
i need to try immediately
Candied Almonds are the best 😊
I love candied nuts! Such a shame about the Christmas markets, I was looking forward to visit 😔
Me too. I guess COVID changed a lot of Things.
