About six months ago, James May had a brilliant idea... Pimp My Beans.

As you can imagine, he's quite a busy chap, so it's taken him a little while to get around to it.

He's enlisted my help, as most (all) of his ideas involved Spam. And while we do love a bit of Spam here at FoodTribe (it's in the contract... you're forced to eat it on your first day), we thought we'd expand those Spammy horizons to new worlds, tastes and flavours.

Let us know how you'd like to see us pimping beans in the coming weeks!

  • A poached egg in beans, I'm living for it! They look delish 😊

  • Awww how pretty and lovable you are, Rachael ❤️ (Luckily we contributors don’t have to eat Spam by contract 😂 )

  • the Czarina of Beans.

My personal beans pimping: fry 4 slices bacon in 12" iron skillet, remove and crumble. Then saute some diced onion in the grease. Then add beans, bacon, and some good Bar-b-q sauce to taste.

    • I'm going to put that on my grave (or at least on my Twitter profile). I like the sound of your beans!

  • Those were almost "Huevos Rancheros." They just needed to be served over an almost crispy corn tortillas. You should do New England Style Beans.

    • Are these New England beans the maple syrup beans mentioned elsewhere in the comments? Two votes, I'd say this might have to be attempted!

    • I cannot answer for JQ’s version, his may be better than the recipes I’ve used! Many use molasses (I think the American version is a little more bitter than treacle) as part of the sweetener. The molasses does give a nice tang to the beans.

  • Well done Rachel, I’m going to be doing a rather boring string of moderately yummy one pot dishes in my bug out yacht galley soon. Also I have a rather uninteresting collection of spam recipes from each coastal marina I visit. So if you find yourself suffering from insomnia, simply tune in and you’ll be sound asleep in no time.
