What's the funniest pub name you've ever seen?

Ye Olde Cock in London is surely the funniest I've come across...

A catchy and funny name for a pub always grab attention, and old British pubs know this pretty well. They've been at it for centuries... This one made me laugh quite a lot, mostly because of the iconic James May catchphrase, "Oh Cock!"

Ye Olde Cock Tavern is in London, at number 22 Fleet Street. This tavern has been in business since the 17th century. Originally it was on the other side of the road, and then moved to the current location. The interior had to be rebuilt in 1980 after a fire, and they used old photos to ensure it was as traditional as possible.

The interior is beautiful. There's wood and leather sofas and comfy armchairs, with lovely pale colors and plenty of natural light. There are three floors, and on the top one there is an amazing bar topped by a skylight. There's a wide selection of wine and gin available, and obviously traditional food such as fish and chips, sausages and mash, and so on.

Ye Olde Cock Tavern is definitely on my list of places to go next time I'm in London. Sadly the last time we arrived at closing time, which is around 10pm, and only managed a quick look inside.

  • The Bunghole, somewhere in London. Mind you, at the time I knew only that it was a slang term for the number 2 exit and not an aperture on a cask.
