Colemans are a predictable people, which is why on family road trips nobody, not even a new in-law, ever says “ooh look at that lovely bakery, let’s stop there for lunch”. It’s always a McDonald's. Nobody questions. It’s a thing.
Which to my young child’s mind, was a great idea because no lovely bakery would ever do a better job at lunch than McDonald's. Now that I’m older and obviously know better, I still think that. A pie handmade to a family recipe since 1971 is going to taste amazing. But not better than 10 McNuggets with aioli sauce.
And as a result of this loyalty, I can trace my standard Maccas orders through the years:
CIRCA AGE 2: Happy Meal with 6 nuggets, not cheeseburger. Would go up to the counter like a little Karen to ask for another toy if I got the junkiest, which I always did
CIRCA AGE 10: Quarter Pounder Meal
CIRCA AGE 13: Big Mac Meal
THIS WEEK: Big Mac Meal, 10 McNuggets and 1 hash brown
