It’s Easter and you’re sitting down to tuck into your usual chocolate egg. But wait, something feels different, heavier. And it smells different too. This isn’t your usual chocolate egg…

That’s right, Tom Hixson’s butchers are set to release a gourmet Easter egg this year – made entirely of meat.

The butcher’s teased their 1-kilogram spherical egg-shaped Wagyu roasting joint on social media this week.

As part of their Gourmet Collection, the 100% Wagyu beef egg will be ready available for the Easter period.

Described as superbly tender with natural marbling, these hand-trimmed joints start at 1kg. That’s a decent sized roasting joint for a meat loving couple or a particularly hungry loved one.

If you’re slightly put off by the idea of a perfectly spherical piece of meat (yikes), then not to worry. The fine meat procurers make clear you can personally customise the meat egg to any, “portion size that fits your mood or palette.”

The meat egg is packaged in a sophisticated navy blue box, just like the upmarket choccy eggs you’d see on the promo isles of your local supermarket. Infact, if you blurred your eyes a little, the egg almost passes for a real chocolate Easter egg. That is, until you take a closer look and notice the, ‘exquisitely marbled hand trimmed Wagyu beef’ ovum on the inside.

Creator George Hixon says the team wanted to, “Create something truly unique that hasn’t been done before, celebrating the easter occasion with the finest quality meats.” This egg really does deserve gold medal status when it comes to originality, especially when it comes to price.

Not only because I love wagyu, but also because I can't stomach chocolate after reading article several years ago with sickening description of exploitation and use of child labour in harvesting coco beans. There's wagyu butcher shop around the corner from our house, where we shop regularly. I will give them a tip about Easter eggs!
